The International Women's Day celebrated around the world every 8 March has also lived in the DRC. Several activities were organized to mark the 162nd day of the Women's Rights Day.

In Kinshasa, the day of 8 March 2019 was marked by an important activity where the First Lady of the Republic, Ms. Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi has raised her presence at the Academie des Beaux Arts.

The international theme for this year is "Thinking Equally, Building Smart, Innovating for Change" and at the national level, "Together, Promoting Peace, Security and Gender through Access to Quality Public Services".

"I promise to personally commit myself in the fight against all forms of violence perpetrated to women, particularly sexual violence", the First Lady of the Republic said. "Yes, banish taboos and speak louder than before so that no other woman is broken by violence in all its forms," she said.

Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi expressed concern about the situation of women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, particularly those in the East who are victims of sexual violence. In front of a crowd of guests and a large crowd composed largely of women from everywhere, the First Lady of the Republic promised to accompany the Congolese woman in her quest for empowerment, fulfillment and contribution to the development of the country...

Minister of Gender pleads for access to drinking water

Ms Chantal Safou Lopusa, Minister of Gender, Family and Children, pleaded on the occasion of the celebration of International Women's Day for the accessibility of drinking water, electricity, safe hospitals and health quality education for children.

According to Chantal Safou, these are the key elements that will boost the development of our countryin this crucial moment that needs a change with a view to bring up challenge so that to reach the Objectives durable development (ODD) from 2030.

The celebration of International Women's Day is about awakening women's consciousness to innovate change as recommended in this year's themes.

The Minister of Gender also welcomed the presence of the First Lady, Ms. Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi for agreeing to sponsor the activity of 8 March 2019 which she returns the most deferential tributes to President Felix Tshisekedi who presides over the destinies of the country after having struggled for several decades as well as all those present at this ceremony.
